Canada v Kenya

At Cape Town, February 15, 2003 (day/night). Kenya won by four wickets. Toss: Canada.

Canada came close to pulling off their second upset of the competition, but were denied by a robust all-round peformance from Odoyo. First he topped and tailed Canada's innings to record career-best figures with his bustling fast-medium. Then, as the apparent Kenyan cakewalk crumbled, he applied the icing with a patient unbeaten 27 to guide them home with nine balls to spare. After Shah - crucially dropped on one by the wicket-keeper Bagai down the leg side - and Tikolo had taken Kenya to 99 for one, they stuttered against the unassuming off-breaks of Davison, who rattled through his ten overs to take three for 15 and help reduce Kenya to 154 for five; Modi had become so bogged down that he spent more than an hour and a quarter scoring six, but Kenya got away with it. Earlier, Billcliff became the first Canadian to score a half-century in a one-day international when he biffed a muscular 71. But from 134 for three the innings declined and Odoyo got to work on the tail. His job, though, was only half done.

Man of the Match: T. M. Odoyo. Attendance: 12,627.
