First one-day international

West Indies v New Zealand

At Kingston, June 5. No result. Toss: New Zealand. International debut: P. A. Hitchcock.

Heavy rain, which had flooded Jamaica and washed away Kingston's two one-day internationals against India in the previous fortnight, returned as New Zealand walked out to field. It saved them from defending a modest total, which betrayed their lack of match practice as well as a pitch that had been sweating under the covers. They struggled to 37 for four in 16 overs, but McMillan held firm, adding 67 in the next 17 with Vincent.
