West Indies v India

At Port-of-Spain, June 1. West Indies won by seven wickets. Toss: India.

Heavy morning rain delayed the start and reduced the match to 25 overs a side. Without Tendulkar, resting a stiff shoulder, India batted without any obvious plan and never got going after Sehwag drove his first ball to mid-on. The West Indians bowled with discipline, with Collymore returning economical figures of three for 14 in five overs. Then Gayle delighted a capacity crowd of 25,000 with strokes of withering power, plundering three sixes and nine fours to score 84 in 67 balls. His opening stand of 117 in 18 overs with Hinds all but settled the result, which levelled the series. Yohannan, so impressive at Bridgetown, conceded 25 in one over - 24 to Gayle plus a no-ball.

Man of the Match: C. H. Gayle.
