Ratra.<> In front of a full house of 92,000, Trescothick scored England's fastest one-day century before his shocking lbw turned the match. Chasing a stiff 282 from 49 overs (one was deducted for a slow over-rate), he kept England well on course with a violent assault on the spinners - even though he was recovering from a gastric virus. He reached 100 in 80 balls (two better than David Gower against New Zealand in 1982-83) and was 121 from 109 when umpire Sharma triggered him out, to a ball pitching perhaps six inches outside leg stump. Though Knight and Hussain could also quibble with their lbws, England were complicit in their downfall, and no one else passed 25. Panic set in when Trescothick fell at 224, but the run-out of Flintoff was almost as critical in a slide of six for 35. Earlier, Flintoff had dismissed Tendulkar and Ganguly just when their opening stand was becoming threatening. In his fifth international, Mongia accumulated a deft 71, but some superb ground fielding headed off a 300-run total. Afterwards, England presented the referee, Denis Lindsay, with a letter about the standard of umpiring.
