Second One-Day International

South Africa v New Zealand, 2000-01

At Benoni, October 22. South Africa won by six wickets. Toss: New Zealand. International debut: B. G. K. Walker.
New Zealand's batsmen never overcame a slow pitch producing disconcertingly low bounce from the start. Moreover, the decision to play two slow bowlers - leg-spinner Brooke Walker making his debut alongside Wiseman - meant that they lacked the wherewithal to exploit its vagaries when South Africa batted. Astle took 39 overs for his 58 and no one threatened the South African seamers' supremacy. Telemachus, having missed the opening game through suspension after a misdemeanour in Nairobi, conceded only ten runs in his first spell of six overs. A stand of 111 in 23 overs between Kirsten and Boje established the home team's reply, with Boje again a revelation in the No. 3 spot.
Man of the Match: N. Boje.
