Australia's convincing win gave them the series 3-2. Bevan kept a steady hand on the tiller to prevent their drifting off course after Hayden and Gilchrist had opened with 70 in ten overs. Gilchrist was rampant in scoring 76 off only 60 balls, including ten fours and a six. As when India batted, runs became difficult to come by when the white ball softened, and efforts to sustain the momentum resulted in casualties. Three wickets went down for 15 runs including that of Waugh, Tendulkar's 100th victim in limited-overs internationals. That left Bevan and Harvey to get 64, which they did inside nine overs; Bevan finished unbeaten with 87 from 113 balls. Ganguly's only major score of the series, 74 off 83 balls, and Laxman's first one-day international century (101 in 107 balls) should have led to a bigger Indian total than 265. But the Australian bowlers limited them to 48 runs from their last ten overs. Earlier in the day, bogus ticket-holders had gained admission to the ground at the expense of many with genuine tickets. Subsequent police investigations resulted in the arrest of high-ranking officials at the Goan Cricket Association.
