Sri Lanka v South Africa 2000

At Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, July 11. Sri Lanka won by eight wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka.

South Africa, again on the receiving end of brilliant Sri Lankan fielding in support of penetrative bowling, were totally outplayed. Kallis's unbeaten 83 off 148 balls, with three sixes and four fours, stood out like a beacon in their disappointing 167. After the early loss of Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka were powered to victory by fellow-opener Gunawardene, whose 87 off 77 balls sparkled with 16 fours. He and Atapattu added 129 in 19 overs for the second wicket, and Sri Lanka romped home with 22 overs unused.

Man of the Match: D. A. Gunawardene.
