West Indies v Zimbabwe 1999-2000

At Kallang Ground, Singapore, September 2. West Indies won by six wickets. Toss: Zimbabwe. International debut: A. M. Blignaut.

Effervescent West Indian batting, particularly from Powell, made light of an apparently stiff target. After Zimbabwe had lost their third wicket at 38, Alistair Campbell and Andy Flower added 114 at more than six an over. Both hit brisk eighties, but they had next to no support. West Indies' pace quartet took all nine wickets cheaply, their two slow bowlers none, rather more expensively. Chasing 245, West Indies rushed to 100 without loss in the 15th over. This time it was Jacobs and the other Campbell, Sherwin, who shared a partnership of 114 at more than a run a ball. Three wickets fell for six, but there was no let-up for Zimbabwe. Lara, with 48 from 44 balls, and then Powell, who rocketed to a 38-ball fifty, each struck four sixes to achieve victory with more than six overs to spare. In all, there were 16 sixes, an indication of the compact size of the ground.

Man of the Match: R. D. Jacobs.
