New Zealand v Zimbabwe 3rd ODI 2000-2001

Don Cameron

At Auckland, January 7. Zimbabwe won by one wicket.
Toss: Zimbabwe.
Streak led a brilliant comeback, dramatically claiming both match and series by hitting McMillan for six over extra cover. It was Zimbabwe's first one-day series win overseas against another Test nation. Though Streak had sent New Zealand in and removed Sinclair early, most of the home batsmen scored solidly on a flat pitch. A blistering 75 from McMillan - 53 balls, including seven fours and three sixes - lifted them to an imposing 273, with 90 coming in the last ten overs. That looked impregnable when Zimbabwe were 64 for five in the 16th over. But Flower and Viljoen built a steady stand of 82, and then Streak played his amazing innings of 79 in 67 balls. Victory still seemed out of the question when McMillan struck twice in the 47th over, leaving Zimbabwe 19 short with one wicket left. But Streak's fifth six snatched the series from the stunned New Zealanders with eight balls to spare.
Man of the Match: H. H. Streak.
