Fifth One-Day International

South Africa v Australia 1993-94

At East London, April 2 (day/night). Australia won by seven wickets. Toss: South Africa. Poor selection cost South Africa the match. On a slow, turning pitch, they stuck to their all-pace attack, while Australia not only chose their specialist spinners but used Border's own left-arm spin with great success. Only Peter Kirsten offered resistance, with a patient 53. Once he was out, South Africa collapsed for 158. Even then, the loss of three wickets in quick succession posed problems. but Steve Waugh completed a splendid game with a scintillating unbeaten 67 at more than a run a ball, to secure victory with ten overs to spare. Donald missed this game and the rest of the one-day series, pleading exhaustion.
