At Christchurch, March 12. England won by six wickets. Toss: England. An undistinguished match was won with ease by England, who took a 2-0 lead in the four-match series. Overnight rain delayed the start, reducing the overs to 45 per side, and Gatting chose to field first. Wright again batted combatively with little top-order support, and at 86 for five a humble total looked likely. Kuggeleijn and Bracewell put on 63 in fourteen overs to give the final score substance, but New Zealand wasted any chance they had by dropping both Broad and Moxon in single figures. Broad, in all, was missed three times in an eccentric innings, and there was some appalling cricket from both sides before England won with thirteen balls to spare.
