†AUSTRALIA v NEW ZEALAND 1987-88

At Sydney, January 20 (day/night). Australia won by 78 runs. Toss: Australia. In front of an all-ticket, sell-out crowd New Zealand, who were without Hadlee, Wright and Martin Crowe, put up only token resistance in the last of the twelve qualifying matches. Marsh, who had had an ordinary series up to this game, scored his fifth century in one-day internationals (101 from 148 balls with five fours and a five) before falling in the 50th over. When New Zealand batted, Davis took three of the first five wickets, and after Brown was dismissed the lengthy tail collapsed. The final five wickets fell for the addition of only 24 runs.

Man of the Match: G. R. Marsh. Attendance: 41,813
