Miscellanea

Notable onlookers at the Lord's Schools v. The Rest game at Lord's in August were Herbert Sutcliffe (Yorkshire), whose son, W. H. H. Sutcliffe (Rydal), appeared for The Rest, J. B. Hobbs (Surrey), and E. Hendren (Middlesex). These three England players have an aggregate of 510 centuries in first-class cricket -- 38 in Test matches.

Len Hutton, of Yorkshire and England, gave a bat to an Army unit, and the commanding officer presented it to Cecil Pepper of New South Wales for rapidly making a century against an English team in Palestine. Using this bat in Queensland, Pepper scored an amazing hundred in 24 minutes, his hits including ten 6's.
