Third Test

India v Australia

At Calcutta, October 17, 18, 20, 21, 22. Drawn. Rain prevented play on the last two days, the series being left drawn.

The first innings of each side followed the same pattern. When Australia were put in to bat, Simpson and Lawry opened with 97, but such a breakdown followed that the innings ended for another 77. Durani, the slow left-hander, with six for 73, caused most trouble.

Sardesai and Jaisimha began with 60 for India, but a collapse followed until Borde came to the rescue with a determined innings. Australia, 61 behind, were again indebted to the consistent Simpson and Lawry, who opened with 115. With Australia 143 for one, rain set in and ruined the match.
