PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES 1980-81

At Lahore, November 24, 25, 27, 28, 29. Drawn, after the loss of the third day to rain. West Indies, who were without Holding (shoulder injury) and Greenidge (stomach upset), bowled only 73 overs on the first day. Pakistan, after electing to bat on a lifeless wicket, had slipped to 95 for five by mid-afternoon, but a sixth-wicket stand of 93 between Wasim Raja and Imran Khan revived the innings. Imran became the second player (after Intikhab Alam) to achieve the double of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in Tests for Pakistan, and on the second day he celebrated his 28th birthday by completing his maiden Test century. In 198 minutes he put on 168 for the seventh wicket with Abdul Qadir - who retired hurt at 260 for six after being hit on the shoulder by Croft - and Sarfraz Nawaz. Imran, who was named Man of the Match, then crowned his brilliant all-round performance by dismissing Bacchus in his first over.

On the fourth day Pakistan's accurate spin on a damp pitch accounted for eight of the nine wickets to fall; four to the leg-spin of Qadir and two to the off-spin of Nazir Junior. West Indies struggled once Haynes and Richards were parted, and it was thanks mainly to a sixth-wicket stand of 67 between Gomes and Murray that their first innings deficit was not greater than 72. The final day saw Pakistan going through the motions with no hope of a positive result.
