India v ZImbabwe

At Kochi, March 13. Zimbabwe won by six wickets. Toss: India.

India fell behind again, thanks to their lacklustre batting and the seam of Hondo, in his first match of the tour. Familiar with Indian conditions after a spell at Dennis Lillee's Pace Foundation in Chennai, Hondo shot out the top three in his opening burst, and claimed a fourth victim at the death. Zimbabwe hardly missed the injured Andy Flower as they pursued 192 against a toothless attack. The pitch was docile, but the weather sultry; that did not deter Campbell, who scored his third successive fifty as opener. He stood firm as two early wickets fell, then shared a crucial century stand with Grant Flower. But it was Wishart who struck Mongia for the winning six.

Man of the Match: D. T. Hondo.
