India v ZImbabwe

At Mohali, March 10 (day/night). India won by 64 runs. Toss: India.

A fine all-round display - 45 runs and three wickets - from the local hero, Mongia, helped to level the series. Mongia and Ganguly shared an opening stand of 109 in 15 overs, and Ganguly hit three sixes in an 83-ball 86, despite an injured knee. Laxman joined him in notching up a second successive fifty as the pitch's welcome bounce seduced the excited Zimbabwean seamers into bowling waywardly. Their batsmen made a valiant effort to chase 320 in 49 overs (one was deducted for a slow over-rate), but once Harbhajan Singh broke the second-wicket century partnership between Campbell and Friend, his off-breaks and Mongia's left-arm spin saw off any threat from Zimbabwe.

Man of the Match: S. C. Ganguly.
