Fifth One-Day International

India v Pakistan

At Toronto, September 20. India won by seven wickets. Toss: India.

Again, Ganguly dominated a tense match, reduced by almost half because the outfield was soaked. His medium-pace swing helped contain Pakistan to 159 for six: he then opened India's batting and remained the pulsating end, with three balls remaining (their allocation had been reduced by two overs through their tardy over-rate). Ganguly's run-a-ball 75, including a six and eight fours, controlled a decisive partnership of 108 off 106 balls with Jadeja. As India closed in, Pakistan seemed overcome by both tension and the cold: the temperature had dropped to 12 degrees Centigrade. Moin Khan missed a stumping off Jadeja, Mohammad Akram converted a catch off Ganguly into a six by stepping over the boundary, and three run-out chances were muffed.

Man of the Match: S. C. Ganguly.
