West Indies v England 1997-1998

At St. Vincent, April 5. West Indies won by four wickets. Toss: England.

England persisted in batting first, but lost their top three batsmen for a combined total of six runs, two of them to local boy McLean. Despite the efforts of the middle order - in which Russell had replaced Ramprakash in order to introduce a left-hander - they could not recover from this start, and were bowled out with seven balls remaining. Chasing a target of only 150, Lambert scored 52 of his side's first 66 runs. Then Lara, who had dropped down the order because of a bad knee, added his own fifty. When he was out, West Indies were five short of victory; they completed if to secure the series with more than 12 overs in hand.

Man of the Match: B. C. Lara.
