Wasim Akram grabbed two wickets - his first of the tournament - in the opening over to set Pakistan on the way to their tenth title at Sharjah. He removed Ramesh and Dravid with his third and fourth balls and finished with three for 11, as India failed to set their old adversaries any sort of target. Only Ganguly, with a defiant 50, suggested any permanence in the batting, which subsided to 125 all out. This was Indian cricket at its most shoddy, unable to bat out the 50 overs and throwing away three wickets to run-outs. Pakistan strolled home with 22 overs to spare; Inzamam-ul-Haq struck 39 in 38 balls, while the unfortunate Agarkar conceded more than ten an over.
