India ended an eight-match losing sequence against Pakistan with an emphatic victory that saw them finish top of the group table. It was the first time in the six round-robin games that the team batting second had won. India's stand-in skipper Jadeja added to his reputation for positive captaincy, and India looked much more like a team that believed in itself. They restricted Pakistan to 205, a total which owed a lot to some robust late hitting by wicket-keeper Moin Khan. After an early strike by Shoaib Akhtar, Pakistan's bowlers rarely dented India's authority. Ramesh and Dravid almost completed the job with a 166-run partnership for the second wicket.
