Coca-Cola Cup 1998-99, third match

England v India

At Sharjah, April 9 (day/night). India won by 20 runs. Toss: India.

A low-grade contest between two teams short of confidence was decided by another panic attack in England's lower order. Chasing a modest Indian score of 222, England lost their last six for 47, three of them in one over to the very occasional bowling of acting-captain Jadeja, who then ran out Austin in the next over to end the match. This made him look a tactical genius. Jadeja had taken over the captaincy after Azharuddin bruised his foot scoring an unbeaten 74. India also needed a substitute wicket-keeper after Mongia was hit in the mouth; Dravid did an impressive job, stumping Hick and then catching Fairbrother, who made England's only fifty.

Man of the Match: A. Jadeja.
