India v Sri Lanka

At Pune, March 30. India won by 51 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka. International debut: A. R. Khurasiya.

India's victory ensured that they would meet Pakistan in the final. A strong performance was led by acting-captain Jadeja (Azharuddin was nursing an injured shoulder), who scored 103 in 102 balls, with six fours and three sixes. He added 125 with debutant Amay Khurasiya, who romped to 57 in 45 balls; India doubled their score in the last 18 overs. Fine fielding then helped them dismiss Sri Lanka with four overs to spare. Only De Silva passed 30, and he was run out soon after reaching 8,000 runs in one-day internationals. He was the third batsman to achieve this landmark, after Azharuddin and Desmond Haynes, though Tendulkar was close behind.

Man of the Match: A. Jadeja.
