Meril International Tournament 1998-99, first match

Kenya v Zimbabwe

At Dhaka, March 19 (day/night). Zimbabwe won by 133 runs. Toss: Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe won convincingly with six overs to spare, thanks largely to the leg-spin of Strang. For the second time in limited-overs internationals, he claimed five wickets, narrowly failing to match the five for 21 he took, also against Kenya, at Patna in the 1996 World Cup. After a promising opening partnership of 54, the Kenyans crumbled, before Streak finished things off with two late wickets. Zimbabwe's total had been built around half-centuries from Andy Flower and Brandes, who needed just 34 balls for his 53. During his innings, Flower became the first Zimbabwean to hit 3,000 runs in one-day internationals - in his 101st match.

Man of the Match: P. A. Strang.
