First One-Day International

West Indies v Australia 1998-1999

At St Vincent, April 11. West Indies won by 44 runs. Toss: Australia. International debut: H. R. Bryan.

Australia fielded seven new arrivals, as the one-day section of the tour was to be contested by their World Cup squad. But it was a West Indian newcomer who won the day. Hendy Bryan, a 29-year-old seamer from Barbados, took four wickets - including both Waughs and Bevan - for just 24 on his first international appearance. Only Julian reached 30 as Australia were dismissed in the 42nd over. Their allocation had been reduced to 47 because of a slow over-rate in West Indies' innings, which featured 20 wides. The home side also batted unconvincingly - Campbell's 62 included only one four - but a total of 209 proved quite enough.

Man of the Match: H. R. Bryan.
