Third One-Day International

New Zealand v India 1998-99

At Wellington, January 14. No result (D/L method). Toss: New Zealand. International debut: C. J. Drum.

The game was nicely poised when a severe downpour ended play. More rain overnight ruled out a rematch on the reserve day. A delayed start had reduced the distance to 44 overs, further revised to 32 after another shower. India batted with such panache on a good pitch that they would have reached a formidable total given a full 50 overs: again, Dravid stole the show. When their reply was decisively halted, New Zealand had lost Horne and McMillan, heavy scorers in the previous matches. But Young hit 52 from only 40 balls, and they were well on course for a revised target of 212.
