First One-Day International

New Zealand v India 1998-99

At Taupo, January 9 (day/night). New Zealand won by five wickets (D/L method). Toss: India.

Owen Delany Park, part of a picturesque lakeside resort in Northern Districts, attracted 12,000 people to its debut as an international venue. Three things went wrong, however, Tendulkar was out for a duck, Fleming strained his groin and missed the rest of the series, and the floodlights failed during New Zealand's innings.

Batting first, India built their total round a scintillating run-a-ball 123 from Dravid- his third century in three innings. In reply, Horne and McMillan gave New Zealand momentum which stood them in good stead with Messrs Duckworth and Lewis. When the lighting was restored, the target dropped to 200 - another 32 from 50 balls.

Man of the Match: R. Dravid.
