Australia v New Zealand 1997-1998

At Sharjah, April 18 (day/night). Australia won by six wickets. Toss: New Zealand.

A listless, one-sided affair saw Australia coast home with six wickets and 13 overs to spare. New Zealand, electing to bat, soon had to dig themselves out of another hole; both openers were gone by the time the score was 28. The captain, Stephen Fleming, again pulled things round with a steady 59, but enjoyed only laboured support. Harris, a naturally exuberant strokeplayer, took 69 balls for his 26. As against India, the lower order capitulated - the last five wickets totalled 16. Damien Fleming finished with four for 28. Gilchrist and Ponting set about the paltry target with alacrity and, although three wickets later fell for nine runs, the result was never in doubt.

Man of the Match: D. W. Fleming.
