Pakistan v West Indies

At Sharjah, December 12 (day/night). West Indies won by 43 runs. Toss: West Indies. International debut: Akhtar Sarfraz.

West Indies' comfortable victory belied their recent disastrous tour of Pakistan. Only the off-spin of Saqlain Mushtaq and the late charge of Wasim Akram put any brake on the scoring, and Pakistan were let down by some of the shoddiest catching imaginable. The chief beneficiary was Stuart Williams, who went on to 77, but the impetus came from Lara, with 88 from 80 balls, including seven fours and three sixes, before he clipped a catch to deep square leg. A containing spell from Walsh and an imaginative one from Lewis, who bowled his leg-spin into the rough from around the wicket, pegged Pakistan back. Despite a slow start, Shahid Afridi's explosive hitting brought him 67 from 56 balls with six fours and four sixes. But he was one of three run outs as the innings disintegrated.

Man of the Match: B. C. Lara.
