Titan Cup, second qualifying match

AUSTRALIA v SOUTH AFRICA

At Indore, October 19. South Africa won by seven wickets. Toss: Australia.

Australia made a solid start until both openers were run out by the brilliant South Africans; the loss of Mark Waugh just as he was moving into his shots was especially devastating. The middle order floundered against the spinners, and it needed a Bevan half-century to take them past 200. Kirsten and Hudson soon put the target in perspective with a rollicking opening stand of 118 in 104 minutes, and Kirsten proceeded to his seventh one-day hundred, with aplomb that was only slightly shaken when the scoreboard turned out to have signalled the century four runs early. It took him another 20 minutes to get there properly. With no genuine fifth bowler, the Australians were helpless to slow South Africa, who won without fuss.

Man of the Match: G. Kirsten.
