Second One-Day International

INDIA v NEW ZEALAND

At Amritsar, November 18. India won by six wickets. Toss: India.

Astutely exploiting the colder conditions of the north, where the ball often moves around, Prabhakar picked up only his second bag of five wickets in 122 one-day internationals. He kept New Zealand down to 145, despite a fifty from opener Astle; it was left to Morrison, not renowned as a defensive batsman, to deny him a hat-trick. But the target might have proved a bit of a test on a pitch not conducive to strokeplay. India lost their top four with just 72 on the board, before Manjrekar and Jadeja levelled the series with an unbroken stand which more than doubled the score.

Man of the Match: M. Prabhakar.
