Pakistan sailed past their target with nearly 20 overs to spare when Saeed Anwar hit his third six. Their only concern was that the middle order was still waiting for batting practice. But the bowling was in fine shape, especially Waqar Younis, who rediscovered his rhythm after a slow recovery from back injury. His pace and swing claimed four wickets, the first two in one over, which reduced Holland to 29 for three. In the closing stages, he also bowled Aponso, who had accumulated 58, and Lefebvre, acting-captain because Lubbers had damaged his knee. Aponso and van Noortwijk had resisted bravely during a stand of 73 in 27 overs, and both hit sixes off Mushtaq Ahmed, but it was merely a holding operation. Though Pakistan started slowly, and lost Aamir Sohail cheaply again, Anwar accelerated to 83 in 75 balls to complete an early win. By then the morning's small crowd had grown to 16,000.
