Again, Salim Malik asked South Africa to bat, creating divisions in Pakistan's dressing-room. The home team thrived, especially Rindel, who had never opened before at any level higher than club cricket, waited 16 balls to get off the mark, but then took only 116 more balls to reach a maiden century in his seventh one-day international. He and Kirsten put on 190 in 38 overs.

Requiring 267, Pakistan collapsed immediately. De Villiers took a wicket in each of his first three overs and Donald celebrated his return to international cricket with the next three wickets. No recovery was possible from 42 for six (four of them caught behind by Richardson, who later held a fifth) and South Africa took the finals 2-0.
