Warne and McGrath took four wickets each as New Zealand were bowled out for 135 inside 49 overs. Only Greatbatch and Cairns passed 20, and the last seven wickets went down for only 31. Australia strolled to victory with 11.1 overs remaining, as Hayden - returning to international cricket after a prolific run with the bat for Queensland - and Boon made unhurried and unbeaten half-centuries.

Man of the Match: S. K. Warne. Attendance: 16,865.
