INDIA v WEST INDIES

At Ahmedabad, November 16. West Indies won by 69 runs, India's target having been revised to 170 from 38 overs. Toss: West Indies.

A crowd of 50,000 packed the Gujarat Stadium, and some lost patience after India had tumbled to 55 for six, answering West Indies' 202. Hurling stones, firecrackers and empty plastic bottles, they forced the fielders into the middle of the pitch. After 22 minutes the game resumed, but it halted again two balls later; the West Indians felt unsafe chasing the ball to the boundary. More than 40 minutes - 12 overs - were lost in all, but India's eventual total of 100 was way under even their revised target. Hooper's spin finished what Winston Benjamin's pace began and West Indies went through to the semi-finals with nearly ten overs to spare.

Man of the Match: W. K. M. Benjamin.
