SOUTH AFRICA v AUSTRALIA 1993-94

At Verwoerdburg, February 20. South Africa won by 56 runs. Toss: South Africa.

Cronje continued his domination of Warne, with three more sixes to follow two in three balls the previous day. His 97 from 102 balls ensured a good total before Kuiper played an innings which was violent even by his standards. He hit an unbeaten 47 off 22 balls, including three successive sixes off the last three balls of the innings, bowled by McDermott. The over cost 26 in all.

Australia were then well beaten, thanks to a fine three-wicket burst from Matthews, although Steve Waugh and Border put on 107 for the fifth wicket, with Border's savage 41 rivalling the earlier onslaught of Kuiper. Donald was dropped for the match, underlining the strength in depth of South Africa's pace bowling.

Man of the Match: W. J. Cronje.
