Third One-Day International

NEW ZEALAND v PAKISTAN 1993-94

At Wellington, March 9. Pakistan won by 11 runs. Toss: New Zealand.

The first decent total of the one-day series set up a victory for Pakistan rather more comfortable than the 11-run margin suggested. Their score of 213 revolved around strong hitting in a second-wicket stand of 142 between Aamir Sohail and Inzamam-ul-Haq. New Zealand had short-lived hopes when, at 168 for three with Rutherford and Thomson together, they needed 46 from the last six overs. But they could not cope with the return of Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram. The run-flow was greatly reduced and the next four wickets fell for 13. A third successive win assured Pakistan of the Bank of New Zealand Cup.

Man of the Match: Inzamam-ul-Haq.
