AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES

At Brisbane, January 10. West Indies won by seven runs. Toss: Australia.

Already qualified for the finals, West Indies made five changes from the previous day and their victory was a psychological fillip. Hooper's 65-ball 56 and his fifth-wicket partnership of 57 in 12.3 overs with Logie held the innings together after a shaky start, but their modest total required diligent defending. Patterson's sharp opening spell set back Australia, at ten for two, and slick fielding accounted for four run-outs as the last five wickets fell for 32. One of the victims was Mark Waugh, who scored his second successive fifty.

Man of the Match: C. L. Hooper.

Attendance: 19,877.
