Wills Trophy 1991-92, first match

PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES

At Sharjah, October 17. West Indies won by one wicket. Toss: West Indies. Richardson overcame cramp to score an unbeaten hundred and secure victory in his first match as West Indies captain. His runner, Lambert, helped him to 106 from 142 balls, with ten fours. Richardson came in when Lambert was caught behind in the third over, and saw three more batsmen perish cheaply before Hooper offered him some support. But a second collapse left West Indies at 158 for eight, until Bishop joined his captain to add 45 for the ninth wicket. The target was reached with 15 balls to spare. Pakistan's total of 215, not a challenging one, had depended largely on Ramiz Raja and Javed Miandad, the only batsmen other than Richardson to approach 50.

Man of the Match: R. B. Richardson.
