The second of the three one-day internationals was made the least one-sided by the slowest of all the pitches which England came across on their tour. The slower a seam bowler was, the harder he was to hit, and the slowest of all was Latham, who came on in the 31st over of England's innings and took two wickets with his first three balls. After he had later dismissed Lamb, England's last four wickets had to make 55 from ten overs, then 45 off seven. But at just the right time Reeve and Lewis used their feet, and in spite of all the previous evidence Crowe used his quickest bowlers at the end. With 22 wanted from three overs, deft improvisation by Pringle enabled England to win with five balls to spare. Earlier, Rutherford had made 52 off 86 balls, which was enough in the eyes of Steve Boock to win the Man of the Match award.
