NEW ZEALAND v SRI LANKA 1990-91

At Auckland, January 28. New Zealand won by 41 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka. Again Sri Lanka started nervously, with Labrooy bowling three wides in his first over before dismissing Wright early on. Reid, who was strong on the hook and the drive, and Crowe, sweeping with particular effect, added 83 for the second wicket from 113 balls, and Jones embellished his outstanding one-day record with an unbeaten 64 from 76 deliveries. The Sri Lankans batted positively, though taking till the 29th over to reach three figures. The acquisitive Gurusinha scored a busy 81 from 90 balls, with six fours and two sixes, and Ratnayake caused a flutter with 22 in nineteen balls. At 185 for seven Sri Lanka still had a chance, but the tail went quickly.
