PAKISTAN v SRI LANKA

At Hobart, February 15. Pakistan won by six wickets. Toss: Pakistan. In contrast to the previous fixture, Bellerive Oval was in perfect condition for what proved to be a most entertaining match. Waqar Younis claimed early wickets, but a fifth-wicket stand of 72 in 47 minutes between Gurusinha and Ranatunga pulled Sri Lanka out of trouble. Gurusinha, batting in an enterprising manner, scored his 59 from 84 deliveries, but when he was out, the lower order failed to consolidate the innings. Ramiz Raja, in his 101st one-day international, batted throughout the Pakistan reply, reaching his fifty from 60 balls, his hundred from 133, and in all batting for 198 minutes (148 balls). His third-wicket partnership of 105 with Miandad gradually took any initiative away from the Sri Lankan bowlers.

Man of the Match: Ramiz Raja.

Attendance: 3,323.
