PAKISTAN v SRI LANKA

At Brisbane, February 10. Pakistan won by five wickets. Toss: Pakistan. The competition resumed with a splendid exhibition of one-day cricket played in the right spirit on an excellent pitch. Sri Lanka owed their good start to a second-wicket partnership of 138 in 116 minutes between Tillekeratne (127 balls) and Gurusinha (108 balls) which occupied 30 overs. For Pakistan, Ijaz Ahmed scored his second century (101 balls) in his 65th one-day international. Batting with aggression and skill, but without resorting to slogging, he hit nine fours and a six in exactly two and a half hours. Had Salim Yousuf (73 balls) and then Javed Miandad not been affected by the high humidity during their innings, Pakistan's victory would have been achieved sooner.

Man of the Match: Ijaz Ahmed.

Attendance: 4,697.
