At Calcutta, November 1. Pakistan won by four wickets. Toss: West Indies. This exciting, entertaining match was brought to a memorable climax by Wasim Akram, who came to the wicket in the final over when Akram Raza was run out by Walsh's direct hit from 35 yards. A single by Imran Khan then reduced Pakistan's target to 3 runs of Richards's last two deliveries, the first of which Wasim swung high over wide mid-wicket for an astonishing six. Richards's earlier decision to bowl out his front-line attack in a bid to stop Pakistan's dynamic advance had left him with no option but to bowl the final over himself. Unlike the West Indians, whose innings took time to develop, Pakistan had quickly overcome the loss of Aamer Malik in the second over. Ramiz hit six fours in his 31-ball 35 as he had Ijaz put on 60; Ijaz (56) and Salim Malik (71) faced 66 and 62 balls respectively, the latter hitting a straight six off Walsh; and Salim and Imran added 93 off 95 balls for the fifth wicket to keep Pakistan up with the run-rate. West Indies' total was built around an unbeaten 107 off 134 balls by Haynes, his sixteenth one-day international hundred. Pakistan fielded aggressively and Imran, bowling his nine overs at the end, kept the final slog in check. Richards, who hit a six and two fours in scoring 21 from eleven balls, was the first of Imran's three wickets in five overs.
