Indeed, they never really recovered from the run-out of their captain at the start of the innings. Srikkanth, at the non-striker's end, was much too extravagant in his backing-up to be able to regain his ground when Lamba played the ball to Simmons at short square leg. When Lamba and Amarnath hinted at a restoration by taking the score to 50, Walsh removed them both and also Vengsarkar. India's 165 never looked as if it would tax the West Indians. Haynes's 64 off 100 balls included seven boundaries, while Richardson was unbeaten with 58 off 110 balls when West Indies won with more than seven overs to spare.
