†SRI LANKA v WEST INDIES 1989-90

At Rajkot, October 19. Sri Lanka won by four wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka. The left-handed Gurusinha, with a solid 66, held Sri Lanka's innings together after the loss of three wickets for 45 had threatened to jeopardise their reply to a jaded performance by West Indies. When he was fifth out, at 146, Sri Lanka's first victory over West Indies - in eleven one-day internationals - was virtually assured. Just two days earlier, the West Indians had been losing to Pakistan in Sharjah, and apart from Haynes and Logie, and to a lesser extent Richards, their batsmen showed little interest in applying themselves against some steady bowling.

Man of the Match: A. P. Gurusinha.
