At Port-of-Spain, March 11. West Indies won by six wickets. Toss: India. Although the margin of West Indies' win was as great as in the match two days earlier, there was a period when India, their small score notwithstanding, were in contention. West Indies would have been stretched to win had Arthurton, who scored 76 from 114 balls, not survived a stumping chance before scoring. India chose to bat first, not least because they expected the ball to turn later in the day, an expectation created by the pitch's behaviour in the previous match. Instead they found the ball deviating off the seam and bouncing awkwardly. This, plus the accuracy of Ambrose, Bishop and Walsh, confined the openers to 47 in 21 overs, and wickets were lost later in seeking acceleration. The Indians countered, however, by dismissing Greenidge and Haynes for 34 runs, and after a brief recovery two more wickets fell, including that of Richards, lured by Hirwani into giving a return catch. Arthurton should have gone in the same over but, having escaped, he and Logie won the match with an unbroken partnership of 92.
