At Auckland, March 21. West Indies won by six wickets. After losing a wicket to the third ball, New Zealand, put in, were gathering momentum through a second-wicket partnership between Wright and Martin Crowe when Wright injured his knee badly enough to require a runner. His movement hindered, he virtually surrendered his wicket. Horne, first ball, and Crowe were out 1 run later. New Zealand's total became increasingly insignificant as Greenidge and Haynes shared an opening partnership of 134. Greenidge, badly dropped by the wicket-keeper off a skyer when 26, was in commanding form with four sixes and ten fours in making his eighth hundred in one-day internationals from 101 balls. After he was first out, the tempo changed so sharply that West Indies needed another twenty overs to score the remaining 80 to win.
