†INDIA v AUSTRALIA 1986-87

At Ahmedabad, October 5. India won by 52 runs, having come back into the match in fine style after batting unconvincingly. Only a partnership of 67 off 89 balls between Shastri and Madan Lal had given respectability to a mismanaged innings which had stood at 98 for six after Border had inserted India. Australia, having the full 50 overs available on account of their dismissing India, needed 108 off the last 25 overs with eight wickets in hand. But unnecessary risks in running sharp singles against a side fielding for its life in front of more than 60,000 fervent supporters swung the fortunes, and the series, India's way.

Man of the Match: R. J. Shastri.
