With Wasim Akram twice swinging the ball away for six, Ijaz hitting 30 from eighteen balls and Imran scoring 39 off 37 balls, 154 runs came from the last fifteen overs. Sri Lanka's innings, on the other hand, was a pedestrian affair, although there was momentary concern for Pakistan's supporters when Imran pulled up, feeling his ankle, and did not complete his fourth over. Saleem Jaffer was already being rested because of an ankle injury, but Imran's discomfort resulted from nothing more serious than bruising.
